Documentation Showing Veteran Served
on Active Duty During Eligibility Period(s)
During the fall 2008 meeting, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Selection
Committee restate its position that applicants should provide some form of
documentation that the veteran served during war-time period.
Previously the application stated, "Attach to this application a PHOTOCOPY of the
veteran's Certification of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Form DD-214) or other
government documentation showing time served on active military duty during eligibility
period(s) indicated on front of this application."
The new wording is "Attached to this application documentation showing veteran
served on active duty during eligibility period(s) indicated on front of the application."
Some families are experiencing difficulty finding federal documentation for World War II
and other veterans. Documentation may include, but is not limited to copies of,
Department of Defense documents, Department of the Army documents, Department of
the Navy documents, Department of the Air Force documents, Department of Veterans
Affairs documents (federal or state), American Legion documents (see website),
Obituaries, and entries in a family Bible or Holy Scriptures.
